Second grade just completed these this week. I was a little worried we wouldn't quite finish them before portfolios went home. But, we pulled it together, I had to make some adjustments from my original lesson plans to make sure we could get it done! During the lesson we listened to parts of a NASA documentary I found on Youtube, that was narrated by William Shatner. It was long, so I picked out some of the more interesting parts. They really seemed to enjoy the documentary as long as I kept it to 15-20 minutes at a time. We also got to talk about lots of scientific terminology; orbit, thrust, atmosphere, galaxy, astronaut, NASA, laboratory (this list is long). This project took 5 lessons, but this also included about 45 minutes of watching the documentary.
